NAME CHANGE CONTINUED

July 5, 2013

Lets move on to the next area of changing your name.

BANKS: each branch have their own set of rules. First Citizens had no problem using my temporary paper driver license. While, the State Employee Credit Union has to have your hard copy before they will change the name.

CREDIT CARDS: most of them were fairly easy. I had  two or three that require a form. Which there again, you have to provide a copy of DL, SS to send back with form. The new cards take 7 to 10 business days.

Places like Sams you have to go there in person and call the corporate office.

Life Ins-my company requires a form copy of marriage

license and a witness  signature on the form.

With the employer-I had to provide a copy of new SS card.

This all I can think right now. If you have any questions, please let me know. You can post your comments, share your experiences or offer some answers.  I look forward to your comments. Until next time-be well.

North Carolina----Changing your "Name" Tips-Trips and OMG

July 1, 2013

Ok Ladies, now it's official your all legal and married and have that certified peice of paper that sets it in stone. Now you are ready to change your name right? Well, not so fast. Allow me to share some valueable tips that will save you some time and keep you out of anger management classes. I just had the pleasure of experiencing this challenging ever changing set of rules that no one bothers to tell you what the rules are. Just when you think you have the answers they up and change the questions. So without ado I will walk you through the process.

  • Once you have your certified copy of your marriage license, (which you get from the court house) this peice of paper is an additional $10.00. Then you can move to the next step.
  • Take you certified copy to the Social Security Office and apply for you new card. Social Security will ask you a few questions then you sign the papers and you're done. You should receive your new card in 5 to 7 days. They will also tell you that you have to wait 24 hours before you can go to the DMV to change your Driver License. (as a precaution I waited for my card to come in the mail)
  • Then you take your certified copy of your marriage license, (I also took my SS card) and your Driver License to the DMV. Pay your $10.00 get your picture taken you're done. They give you a temporary paper copy and tell you that you should get your hard copy in 7-10 days.

Now that just getting you started----stay tuned----there is more to come. Until next time be well---Cathy
